Kia ora whanau,

Week 12 of a long but very rewarding term for our tamariki.

Please, if your child is sick it is important you keep them at home. I know this is sometimes difficult but we all need to do our part. Thank you to those parents who have kept ill children at home, we look forward to seeing them again when they are well.

Holiday reading logs will be getting distributed this week, I expect every student in R4 to read over the holidays and keep a log. The benefits of reading regularly are huge, and it is a chance for children to have a bit of quiet, screen-free time.

Warmer day and plastic free Thursday

Tomorrow is Warmer day, students can bring one small item wrapped in tinfoil to warm up for lunch.
We are trying to reduce the amount of single-use plastic, so on Thursdays we are asking that there is no single-use plastic in lunchboxes. See the poster below, made by Chloe M.

School photos will be taken next Wednesday. Students have a notice with more information.
Parents, has your child been learning their spelling and x tables lists this week?

Yesterday Mrs Kusabs taught the class, they produced some lovely collage art.

R4 Notices Week 11 Term 2

Last week R4 students set themselves a goal to learn with integrity, being on task and working hard even when no one is watching. Parents, you might like to ask your child how they did with this goal, maybe phrase it around how they did learning their spelling words for the week.

We would also like to have a plastic-free Thursday. Watch this space for more information coming over the next few days. For tomorrow, please try to avoid any single-use plastic in lunchboxes.

R4 Notices Week 10 Term 2

Mid-year reporting and conferencing We have decided due to the Covid-19 outbreak to do our mid-year reporting a little differently this year. We are very interested in how your child went while learning from home. We would like to use this information, as well as our observations from school to set goals around the New Zealand Curriculum Key competencies. On Friday you received a rubric form to complete, keeping in mind how your child went while learning from home. PLEASE RETURN THE RUBRIC/REPORT TO YOUR CHILD’S TEACHER BY WEDNESDAY. Teachers will also complete the school part of the rubric and this information will be sent home during the first week back next term. In week 2 term 3 we will offer 3 way conferences so that we can set goals with you and your child around these for the future.

Milk folding comp and Goldentime reminder

Today we had a class milk carton folding competition. Congratulations to Maclyn and Victoria who will represent us in the school competition tomorrow.

Watch the video here.

Our Goldentime this week is 'Wheels' Students can bring anything that has wheels to ride or drive around the school. We thought these would be ok to bring:
bikes

  • scooters
  • ripsticks
  • skateboards
  • radio-controlled cars
  • hoverboards

Helmets need to be worn if riding bikes and hoverboards.

Flexi physics

Today we learned about physics through using a range of fun equipment. We explored potential and kinetic energy and linked our learning to our writing focus, writing in paragraphs. Look out for the completed projects in Educa in a few days time.

Week 9 Term 2 Notices

Parents, please ask your child about the learning they have been posting on Educa and also their IL spreadsheet.
I expect all students to be reading a novel each week (unless they are reading a very thick novel and they have spoken to me).
Spelling words will be on the R4 Learning site this week.

On Friday Mrs Dunkley spoke to students about being prepared for learning each day. A key component of this is having a fully charged Chromebook. Students who do not bring their Chromebook charged will not be using a device for that day. It will not harm their learning but it will be an inconvenience. Parents, please get your child to manage this as they need to take responsibility.  Do not send a note explaining why Chromebooks are not charged, your child can deal with it.

I must say, overall R4 are pretty good at being prepared for learning.

This week:

Monday

Tuesday
Library - bring your books to exchange

Wednesday

Thursday
Kapahaka (hopefully)

Friday
Sausage sizzle

Mr G is going to run a cooking competition with the vegetables that are ready to harvest from the school gardens. Currently, there is cabbage, broccoli and cauliflower ready. More information will be available in class this week.

Monday 1 June 2020

Week 8 Term 2 Notices

Parents, please check your child's Educa stream, they have posted some learning in the last week.

Nearly every student completed their novel book review last week, a fantastic effort. I do expect that students will be reading a novel each week, although some students who are reading extra thick novels have negotiated a longer period of time for this. We will look to complete a book review every fortnight, we though one a week might be too much.

This week:

Tuesday
Library - bring books to exchange

Wednesday
PE - bring PE gear.

Thursday
Kapahaka

Friday
Sausage sizzle
Goldentime

Our Pentecost art, main contributors - Cheska, Chloe J, Cameron, and many others helped with the flames.

From Mrs CatoWe would like to seek feedback from parents about the COVID-19 "Learning from Home" experience over the COVID-19 Level 3 and 4period. The link to the survey can be found here https://forms.gle/M6e3mZ2UBN5zKwAL6 The survey will remain open until 9pm on Wednesday 3 June. Please can you help us by completing this survey. Thanks.

We have tried to make the survey quick to complete and have a random draw for a $50 New World voucher for every 50 respondents ie If we can get 200 families to respond there will be 4 x $50 vouchers.

The first two prizewinners have been announced - respondent number 26 Mel Palomares and respondent number 58 Eunice Jung. Let's see if we can get at least another 50 responses in the next few days.
